I believe many people on the spectrum are an untapped source of energy waiting to be discovered. Many autists have special gifts and if governed and monitored under protective guidelines, they have the ability to resolve many of the world’s problems. Society could benefit from autism, but these are uncharted waters and no one has been able to recognize, harness and apply these autistic gifts and utilize these talents for the benefit of mankind, which would require research, time, money and patients. Someone needs to see the potential and think outside the box to realize the opportunity that autism has to offer. This would create jobs and careers, as well as gain respect and acceptance in the eyes of society. I cannot speak for all people on the spectrum, but when autists are given the chance to use their gifts that play to their strengths, they can achieve as much, if not more, than anyone in a particular field.
